Unfinished business
I'm back with a new discussion post!
Let's talk about these books you've started eagerly...but never finished!
Tell us about these books, why you wanted to read them and why you stopped.

I had a real long hard think about this. I don't think there is a book i started and didn't finish. I started the audiobook of the Patrick Melrose novels but only listened to the first one, preferring to read the novels myself than listen to one more word out of Alex Jennings's mouth. He is a terrible narrator. All hos characters sounded the same except one. But then I did finish the actual book myself. So does that count?

I wouldn't necessarily finish a book I was hating. Life is too short, but I'm yet to find one I didn't enjoy on some level.

Edit... coming back to this. I do have some books started and unfinished but I WILL finish them at some point. Alan Turing: The Enigma by andrew Hodges and also the Strange Tales comic book series. I will finish them but they aren't finished yet.

The only one I can think of is The Age of Wonder by Richard Holmes.

I heard about it on the radio and sort of bought it for the chapter about Humphry Davy and Michael Faraday... So I read that chapter and then put it aside... Naughty me!! I'm sure the rest of it is fascinating!

I very rarely DNF a book, even if I'm not enjoying it. I don't know why. Sometimes I think because I hope it will get better, and sometimes I want to see just how bad it can get.

That being said, I started Wolf Hall and didn't get very far before I quit it.

I haven't tried Wolf Hall but it's on my list. I want to see the series though.

I recently had to stop reading a book because the author's biased opinions on the topic were utterly unbearable. It was The Dark Side of the Enlightenment: Wizards, Alchemists, and Spiritual Seekers in the Age of Reason by John V. Fleming. I was so excited to learn about this aspect of the period because occult/esoteric stuff is totally my jam. But then Fleming used judgemental words to describe people and their beliefs and it just really got on my nerves. I got a little more than halfway through the book before I decided to stop because it just was not an enjoyable experience.

I haven't had that with a book but I have shouted at many a history documentary for the presenter giving his or her biased opinion instead of sticking to the known facts.

It took a while for me to think of something that fit since I rarely stop reading a book if I at least liked the first couple of chapters but I did give up on I think the fourth Game of Thrones book, I don't watch the show and I just found myself no longer caring about the characters.
