Introducing the 2023 LJ/DW Book Bingo Challenge

This year, with as busy as the three of us are, we are pinching a card from @shadowbooker on Instagram. Thanks to [personal profile] justjo2u  for finding her! I would definitely recommend following her if you are on Instagram. She has a lot of lovely book related graphics/digitals that she shares and this one sounds so much fun and definitely stress-free.

12 MONTHS TO READ 12 BOOKS RECOMMENDED BY 12 FRIENDS

(I'd suggest posting this in your own journal but also on other social media sites and even taking recommendations from family and friends. The wider your cast your net, the more choice you will have.)

We are not quite sure on the prize for 2023 or if there will be one, but we will let you know later in the year. We hope you join us in this challenge. Please feel free to create posts with your book recommendations. Friends definitely include social media friends.

Happy New Year everyone! Kelly, Jenn and Jo

DW Book Bingo

[livejournal.com profile] stellar_raven has been trying to backup the community for a while now without luck. She was able to backup the profile info and tags but the entries fail.

We are not sure what is going to happen with Livejournal in the future but we are already seeing people leave or contemplate leaving, so it never hurts to have a place to go if it does implode here. I will manually add the current book bingo challenge so we have it. I will also try to remember to add in any new posts over there with the ability to comment at dw too. This is all new to us so bear with... :)

If anyone is at DW and wants an invite, please comment with your DW username.

If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please post in the comments below.

Reading a comment from [livejournal.com profile] vysila reminded me that January has blown by and I didn't put up a post to check in! How are you all feeling? I hope January treated you well! Just an update from [livejournal.com profile] stellar_raven, one of my partners in crime here. She's just moved into her new house and it will be another week before she gets internet. She will be back with us soon!

2022 LJ Book Bingo Challenge - FREE Squares

After some discussion, we decided to add THREE free squares for participants to use for those pesky letters that might not be easy to fill. We know that there is some book somewhere out there that would fulfill each square as is, but we don't want anyone to have to force themselves to read a really bad book just to cover a square.

Introducing the 2022 LJ Book Bingo Challenge
Happy New Year!! We have decided to go back to holding a year long Bingo Challenge, but it will be a tad different than a few years ago. Instead of calling individual bingos, we are staying with the challenge of blacking out the card. We think this is easier for everyone involved, especially us. :) Remember you have the entire year to black it out.

[livejournal.com profile] justjo2u had the fun challenge idea of reading a book for each letter of the alphabet. We agreed!

My project (1).png

Just a few rules:

1. For card aesthetics, Y and Z are together. You will need to read two books, one beginning with a Y and one beginning with a Z to complete the square.

2. Those definite articles/determiners like A, An and The can be used to cover A and T, etc. However, you can also disregard them. For example: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse could be used to cover either T or B, but not both.

3. You are allowed to use a magazine or fanfic ONE time each to cover a square, as long as it starts with the letter you are covering.

4. Audiobooks can be used as many times as you like.

5. You can use up to THREE free squares to help with those pesky letters that may prove difficult.

Questions (Asked and Answered)

Q: Do we just say we're taking part, and then post our bingo cards in our own blogs? But do we need to link here, so that you know what we're doing?

A: Yes, please let us know you are taking part and then post the card in your own blogs. We will do periodic posts here to ask everyone how they are coming along. Then at the end of the year, if you have covered your card, you can either post a link to your blog (if it's viewable to at least one of the moderators ([livejournal.com profile] stellar_raven, [livejournal.com profile] justjo2u or [livejournal.com profile] keli)), or post a list of your books here to be in the running for the gift card.

Q: Do we only count books that we've started this year, or can books in progress be counted if they're below 50% completed/another value before the year started?

A. If you finish the book in 2022, regardless of when you started it and how far along you are, it counts.

Q. Do you allow graphic novels?

A. Yes! Cover the squares with as many as you like.

We will include any questions asked and answered in this main post.
