Skin by Kathe Koja - I just finished this a few days ago for the bingo and its descriptions of performance art shows really make me wanna see them on screen. The images in the book were so viscerally affecting that I know some real magic could be made if it were translated to film.
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami - Another book I read for the bingo that was full of great imagery. The dreamlike sequences would be so cool to see on screen, and the songs mentioned in the book would make a good soundtrack.
The Hike by Drew Magary - Oh man, this book was a hilarious fantasy adventure, complete with a talking crab companion, man-eating giants, and a Quest. This would make an amazing movie.
"The Last Sun" by K.D. Edwards: I'm currently reading it and there is a very cinematographic feeling in this book! All the descriptions as so vivid! And I'd really like to see some of the characters played by actors (some of them are really handsome according to the descriptions ;-) ). The universe should also be perfect to be brought to life!
Any Haruki Murakami book! His descriptions are wonderful and like capriceum said his dreamlike sequences would be wonderful on screen! Though, his book would made wonderful animation movies, too!
"The ocean at the end of the lane" by Neil Gaiman: to be honest, all of his book could be great film or series material (and some of them already are!). But this one is the last I read and the mix between reality and supernatural would be very interesting! I'd add that Guillermo del Toro would be perfect as a director.
Gosh this is hard to think of on the spur of the moment. A lot that come to mind are already in the early stages of production for TV or film so I'm not including those. (Rogue Male, How to Stop Time, )
1. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I love the radio drama of this and it would make a fantastic mini series in the right hands.
2. The Witchfinder's Sister by Beth Underdown. Would make a great film or mini series. Already has a built in cliffhanger at the end. I really hope she writes a sequel!
3. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Would be fab. He's a very visual writer and I could imagine this making a great film for the whole family.
1. Wheel of the Infinite by Martha Wells, I would love to see this fantasy book as a mini-series so it could be done right. The story is so good and the visuals would be vibrant and so well done with today's level of technology.
2. Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell, I was so hopeful back a few years ago when they adapted both North & South, and Wives and Daughters but they didn't end up making it. Plus if they made the movie then the book would be back in the public consciousness and more people could enjoy it.
3. Trail of Lightening by Rebecca Roanhorse, The book is soooooo good. I would love to see this well crafted post-apocalyptic book brought to the big screen. The protagonist Maggie is so refreshing in her anger and her flaws as well as being a complete badass, that I would love to watch a movie about her.
