Yes. :( I'm waiting for Reticence by Gail Carriger but it's not out until August. :(
I'm also waiting for The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden. It came out last month and I have one more person ahead of me on the holds list at the library.
Both are the final books of the series! This is why finding new authors is terrible.
Wait - I'm not following? If you're waiting for Reticence, doesn't that mean you've read the rest and know if there is love?
If you haven't read the rest yet, you can't *start* with Reticence!
EDIT: the above was just my opinion, knowing that Reticence is Percy's book - I feel like you'd have to know Percy in order to appreciate a book all about him!
But - the author herself said:
"Hopefully, you’ll be as caught up as possible by the time this book releases in August 2019. I’m giving you fair warning. Read like the wind!
This book will be mad cap and fun and absolutely hilarious no matter what. But you will get all the inside jokes and cookies only if you’ve read the full back catalogue of the Parasolverse.
Gear up, you’re in for a particularly puffy final float!
I enjoyed them! I'm not really into steampunk per se, but I do find her stories engaging! There is a particular style and tone that she has - and I can see where it might not be everyone's cup of tea?
But she's on my (relatively) short list of "Authors that I Watch" - any time there's a new book coming out, I make sure to get it asap!
She's the first steampunk that I tried and I like her style. Her books are on my 'buy someday to study from/enjoy' list.
HAHA. Nice on the tea comment. :D
Yes! The only sad thing is that her shorter stories don't make it to the library. :( I really want to read Romancing the Werewolf. Lyall is one of my favorites.
They are dark in the sense that the Others definitely use tooth and claw to enforce the rules - but it's not gory or bloody - a lot of off-screen violence rather than blow by blow descriptions if that makes sense?
Thanks. I like to check because I started this one book that had a BAD in it right off the bat that I was not expecting..and I couldn't read past it. :(
Binti by Nnedi Okorafor comes out on Tuesday! I am super excited. Binti, a young Himba girl with the chance of a lifetime: to attend the prestigious Oomza University. Despite her family's concerns, Binti's talent for mathematics and her aptitude with astrolabes make her a prime candidate to undertake this interstellar journey. But everything changes when the jellyfish-like Medusae attack Binti's spaceship, leaving her the only survivor. Now, Binti must fend for herself, alone on a ship full of the beings who murdered her crew, with five days until she reaches her destination. There is more to the history of the Medusae--and their war with the Khoush--than first meets the eye. If Binti is to survive this voyage and save the inhabitants of the unsuspecting planet that houses Oomza Uni, it will take all of her knowledge and talents to broker the peace.
Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse comes out on April 23. This is a sequel to Trail of Lightening, which was sooooooo good. One of my favorite novels of 2018. I can't wait!! It’s been four weeks since the bloody showdown at Black Mesa, and Maggie Hoskie, Diné monster hunter, is trying to make the best of things. Only her latest bounty hunt has gone sideways, she’s lost her only friend, Kai Arviso, and she’s somehow found herself responsible for a girl with a strange clan power. Then the Goodacre twins show up at Maggie’s door with the news that Kai and the youngest Goodacre, Caleb, have fallen in with a mysterious cult, led by a figure out of Navajo legend called the White Locust. The Goodacres are convinced that Kai’s a true believer, but Maggie suspects there’s more to Kai’s new faith than meets the eye. She vows to track down the White Locust, then rescue Kai and make things right between them. Her search leads her beyond the Walls of Dinétah and straight into the horrors of the Big Water world outside. With the aid of a motley collection of allies, Maggie must battle body harvesters, newborn casino gods and, ultimately, the White Locust himself. But the cult leader is nothing like she suspected, and Kai might not need rescuing after all. When the full scope of the White Locust’s plans are revealed, Maggie’s burgeoning trust in her friends, and herself, will be pushed to the breaking point, and not everyone will survive.
The book I'm most excited about is "The Hanged Man" from K.D. Edwards. It's the second book of the "Tarot Sequence" and I really enjoyed the first one, "The last Sun", last year! It's coming out in September.
I'm also looking forward to this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41150487-red-white-royal-blue The synopsis makes it look like a fanfic but I have a soft spot for modern royalty, so...
There is also this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40375245-wayward-son The first one is on my to-read list so I'll see if I like it.
I'm not waiting for anything in the true sense as in books that haven't been released yet. There are just books that are out that i haven't bought yet.
Deborah Harkness - Shadow of Night, The Book of Life and Time's Convert.
Can't think of anything else at the moment. I generally just buy what catches my eye at any given moment.
I'm really excited about Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell, the sequel to Carry On, which I really loved. I'm also looking forward the third book in the Arc of a Scythe series by Neal Shusterman. Neither of these books are supposed to be out until September though, so I still have to wait for a while.
