I would definitely have to say any book that I get from my library. You can't get better than FREE. They have any book I want and they let me savor it and call it mine for a whole month. :)

I could be reading this one wrong but that's what "best bargain" means to me.

Lucky! Ours is just 3 weeks. A month would be lovely. But not for waiting. :3

We can renew another three weeks, three times, but only if there aren't any holds on it. :/

I don't use the library but get a lot free or cheap on bookbub. I took this to mean best bargain I bought though. And only one EVER comes to mind for that. It's below!

Bookbub is so good for that! So glad you told me about it!

Lol! yes! Libraries rock. Plus, it's always worth checking their 'ex-stock for sale' section, where you can get books for about 50p.

Our library has that sales section too. I can find some gems for 25 cents sometimes!

The Persian Boy, in a bag of paperbacks my brother got from a bookstore-clerk girlfriend, with the front covers torn off. Illegal, as I found out later.

It's sad that they tear off the front covers. It's such a waste. My daughter works at a national chain and the books they don't sell they will rip off the covers and throw them away. My daughter isn't a reader but she says every time she sees that she can hear mom's (my) heart breaking into a million pieces. It's so uncalled for. Why they can't donate them to the library is beyond me.

Love this meme! I'm going to do it too! And I agree with your answer. My library can order books from all other libraries in the state. With this method there have been very few books I haven't been able to borrow.

My library can order from all over the state too and I love it! They will also consider ordering books that are not available in the state for people. If the district manager can purchase it, she will. I love my library.

I totally agree on the library! I use it as much as I can, however, my library doesn't usually have the newest English books so I buy quite a few books as well. My bookstore has a "buy 3 books, get 1 for free" deal if you're subscribed to their newsletter, so I use that a lot to buy newer books :)

The best book bargain of my life was what I got from my first high school's library when they were repurposing it as a computer room with only textbooks. There were about thirty and were planned to be thrown away. After asking the librarian, I came back the next day with two backpacks and a supermarket bag for life and ran off with the lot. I know I read them all but it's so long ago I can't remember. There was a Dostoyevsky (I think The Brothers Karamazov, which I loved and still love) and a Huxley other than Brave New World. I'm fairly certain that the Huxley was Crome Yellow. I thought Crome Yellow was hilarious.

Oh nice!! I am part of my library's friends group and we have book sales in the spring and fall and since I work them I get first dibs on the books. There are so many good ones I find!

I was very lucky, considering that charity shops here rarely have any good books.

We only get three weeks for our library, and although we can reserve throughout the county (which I make good use of) there are only so many books they hold.

Plust the inevitable, reserve three books at different times and all arrive at once.

Abe Books is my friend - order a book on my phone sitting in bed at night and it's soon winging its way to me.

Library, of course, and library affiliated apps like Hoopla as well.

I also love used book sites like Better World Books, ThriftBooks, and AbeBooks. Better World Books actually donates a book for every book you buy, as well.

But, I'd say my biggest bargain, as well as one of my biggest used book buying surprises, was when I decided to order a used copy of Crooked House by Agatha Christie. The condition was listed as "Used: Good" and was priced at $3.94, but due to a sale there were having I ended up paying, I think $2.84 for it. When it arrived, it ended up being a 1949 Red Badge Mystery edition, that was in fantastic condition.

Here's a post (with pics) that I made at BookLikes when I got it in the mail.

I was pretty thrilled! That's one reason I like buying used books, the surprise factor, lol.

Gifts!
I love my library and I love the history a library book can have.
But someday it leaves me. :(
The best bargain is a book that I am given that I wanted or even better, I am taken to pick it myself.

Once I was gifted a brand new book from B&N! no less, that had a torn page in it! :0
Plus I do enjoy the fact that the person knew what I wanted, therefore knew me. ;p

This one is hard to answer for me... I'm not a regular user of the library... I often buy books with small bargains but nothing worth mentioning here!

This little book I picked up on a stall at a charity sale several years ago. It is the Oxford Book of English Verse 1250 - 1900. It's a small, dark blue leather bound book with tissue thin pages and it's a first edition, printed in 1900! It's slightly dog eared in places and the cover is a little 'loved' (read - worn). There are so many of my favourite poems inside plus others I have enjoyed since. It cost me a whole pound. I couldn't believe my luck!

Can't find any pictures of it online, so here are a few photos:

(Keli, you might recognise the beginning of the poem in the second picture. The Means to Attain Happy Life - it was written by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey and it was used in the Tudors...

It also comes in right at the end of the scene here where he is taken to his execution (I cried BUCKETS!)

I do too. I need a rewatch soon. I just started watching the Spanish princess and I don't know if I can get over some of the changes they made just yet. i'll see how I feel as it goes on.

I don't even know how to answer this because I've been given so many wonderful books, have borrowed so many wonderful books, and Amazon freebies keep me going.
