Strike two

Hey awesome book people!

So, I've struck out twice now on the 'movie' square, which is my final one. Tried to get through 600 pages of Lovecraft, and the racism was too much. Just finished The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory, and I had seen on Tumblr it was listed as a 'upcoming movie' title, but it's an 8 episode series from Starz (with another 8 ordered for next year). These were both in my TBR stack anyways, so no 'extra' effort involved, just a little frustrating. :) I'm sure I can find something else, just I though I had it wrapped up now...twice.

Which books have you read/are planning to read for that square?

Not sure what genres you're into but here are some off the top of my head:

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Love, Simon)
IT (really, pretty much any King novel)
The Woman in the Window
Bird Box (highly rec this book, tbh)

Hopefully that gives you some inspiration!

Anytime! And I recently downloaded the audio version of Hitchhiker's Guide - narrated by Stephen Fry. It's... amazing. Hahaha.

It is a disgrace that I've never read anything by him. I really should change that....

I'm going to read Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9460487-miss-peregrine-s-home-for-peculiar-children) for that square. It's YA.

Some other movie-related books I have on my Goodreads adaptations shelf are:

The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl's Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster by Tim Crothers (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13547258-the-queen-of-katwe) (non-fiction)
The Rhythm Section: A Stephanie Patrick Thriller by Mark Burnell (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40919539-the-rhythm-section) (mystery/thriller...supposedly an upcoming movie with Blake Lively)
Solo: A Star Wars Story: Expanded Edition by Mur Lafferty (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41837280-solo) (sci-fi...and I want to say I've seen a related Solo novel at the library, and I'd count that as a movie tie-in)
The Neverending Story by Michael Ende (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1094741.The_Neverending_Story) (fantasy/YA/childrens)
The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon by David Grann (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3398625-the-lost-city-of-z) (non-fiction)
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34431455-my-cousin-rachel) (mystery) You'd could also do Rebecca
The Circle by Dave Eggers (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20890470-the-circle) (sci-fi)
Annihilation (Southern Reach, #1) by Jeff VanderMeer (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17934530-annihilation) (sci-fi)
Afterlife by Marcus Sakey (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33871932-afterlife) (fantasy/mystery/sci-fi) has a movie deal, but might be one of those that a lot of books get
Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/480479.Under_the_Tuscan_Sun) (non-fiction)
The City of Ember by Jeanne Du Prau (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/307791.The_City_of_Ember) (fantasy/sci-fi/YA/childrens)

RE: Ran out of room
Since you were reading royalty for your other book, I'm sure there are movie/book options out there. I just can't think of any definite ones off the top of my head other than The Princess Diaries, lol.

Maybe they put out a tie-in book for Elizabeth? The King's Speech? And ooh, I think there was something out there for The Favourite.

ETA: There is The Sword in the Stone, which is part of The Once and Future King that was made into a Disney animated movie. TOaFK is one of my favorite books, so I highly rec it, but it is pretty long. I'd say you could just read the chapters that correspond to The Sword in the Stone and call it a day if those chapters don't exist in book form by themselves.

I read the Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins for the movie tie in square. Enjoyed it.

I read the Constant Princess many years ago. I'm loving the series but some of the changes made for the benefits of dramatisation didn't sit well with me at first. I got over myself though and am enjoying it now.

I read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, and it was AMAZING. Don't know if you like true crime, but this book began the genre and it's as good as it gets. I plan to watch the movie soon.

In Cold Blood is one of those books that stands out as a genre standard. It set the tone for all true crime books in the future. It's in my top ten of favorites.
