I didn't achieve my 25 book target for 2019. I've enjoyed the books I did read though. Looking forward to more reading in the new year!

Going to set an easier target for 2020.

I had two main objectives in 2019: make a blackout in the bookbingo and read 30 books (Goodreads challenge). I managed the first one and exceeded the second one as I updated the challenge and read 40 books!
This means I've read more than in 2018 and it really makes me happy!

I also discovered the "Rivers of London" series and it was a long time since I fell in love with a whole universe like that!

My goal was primarily to get a blackout by reading nothing but Australian authors and that was a massive failure — absolutely none of the authors I read were Aussie. I also kind of just fell off the reading wagon by mid-year.

But I did read 11 books and 41 tankobons (manga), so I think next year I'm going to try and stick closer to what's on the bingo card and the choices I've made re: what books to read.

I met my Goodreads goal of reading 60 books and ended up finishing 78. However, over half of them were graphic novels - I just found myself starting a lot of longer books and not finishing them before I had to return them to the library. I guess the graphic novels were easier for me to finish while I am looking for a job that actually pays something + working. I also fell hard into Letterboxd, so I watched a lot more movies this year, too, which cut into my reading time.

I did discover some new-to-me authors that I ended up loving, and also I was very happy that Jasper Fforde put out a new book! It had been 87 years....

I also read more graphic novels this year so I manage to upgrade my Goodreads goal from 30 to 40.

Did you set yourself some goals for 2019?
- I wanted to find some new authors and new genres as well as re-read a couple of series.
- I had a goal of reading at least six books per month (72 in the year)

Did you achieve these goals?
- I did find new authors and new genres. However, I didn't manage my planned re-reads (mainly due to finding new authors)
- I finished the year having read 78 books; so yes, I did achieve my goal.

Did you manage to read more than expected?
Technically, yes, I did manage to read slightly more books than my goal. However, I had hoped to read more.

Have you discovered new books, genres, authors, series and fell in love?
I have indeed.
- The Nick Dixon DI series by Damien Boyd is one such series.
- Another author, whom I read for the first time but plan to read more of, is Edward Marsters who write (amongst other series) 'The Railway Detective' series.
- A new author as well as a new genre is Darcy Coates, who writes 'gentle' horror.

Were you disappointed by some readings?
- One book in particular really disappointed me. In fact the only good thing I could say about it was that it had a gorgeous cover. It was The Christmas Egg: A Seasonal Mystery by Mary Kelly
- I was also disappointed in Aoife's Chariot by Katherine Pathak

Share everything about your year in reading!
- Thanks to Book Bingo I discovered several new authors as well as dipping into genres I would not normally read.
- I rediscovered my enjoyment of the Ruth Rendell Chief Inspector Wexford books and the Dick Francis books.

I surpassed my Goodreads goal of 80 books by reading 90 books this year. (Some were short stories from the Levar Burton Reads podcast, but I count them anyway.)
I also blacked out my [livejournal.com profile] ljbookbingo card, which I'm very happy about.
I did not read all of the books for the Popsugar Challenge this year, but I'm okay with that. I focused on books that I wanted to read more than ones that checked a box.
I discovered a couple of new authors I'm enjoying in Jasmine Guillory and Lesley Livingston and have been working my way through the October Daye (Seanan McGuire) and Dragonriders of Pern (Anne McCaffrey) series. I also finally started reading Jane Austen's books, which somehow I haven't read before.
