I think one thing I could think of was Non-fiction.

D1 would probably like a journal/periodic publication one too. The current ones are good though :)

Wild card is good, could maybe put two of those in instead of adding anything too restrictive.

I do like the idea of wild cards, but instead of putting them on the board, maybe use Jo's suggestion of having them on hand to pull out if someone had trouble finding a book to fill a particular square.

Only had a few ideas:

*Biography/autobiography

*Non-fiction

*Script or screenplay (Film, TV or play, doesn't matter)

*True Crime (could combine with mystery or non-fiction square)

*Published before you were born

*Poetry (could be included with the anthology/short story collection square)

*Blind book (search 'free kindle books' on Amazon, close your eyes and scroll down, pick one at random, no cheating!)

Not a category, but could we maybe keep the 'Free Space' in the middle, but allow 1 extra substitution if someone is struggling to complete a category. (Like a 'get ouf of jail free' card.

I loved all the categories this year too. It's been so much fun trying to find things to fit certain squares.

I'd like poetry, and maybe a play? My wild card this year was a play.

I do like the idea of the extra substitution as there are things I would never be likely to do/read.

I guess biography/autobiography would fit with non-fiction - I do have one of Carrie Fisher's to read on my kindle for next year so I'm retracting the initial horror I felt on seeing that because actually I could do it.

If we're looking to remove any, I would request Fooled by a pretty cover to go - personally if I'd got the book and it was a bit crappy then I'd stop reading so I'd never manage to get that square.

New suggestions:

comic book/graphic novel
diverse authors/characters (poc or lgbtqa authors or characters)
out of your comfort zone (basically a book from a genre you don't normally read often)

I like the idea of something out of your comfort zone and diverse authors or characters

Loving the new list! Any chance you could make the true crime square a "crime/true crime" square, as that would cover most of the police stories I read lol :D

How about if we combine crime with the mystery square? I feel that most police stories would definitely fit the mystery genre anyway.

Doh! How could I forget about mystery?! Probably my first square I filled, lol. Just ignore me :D Although, in that sense, true crime and mystery are all of a similar theme, if you are trying to put more categories in :)

Not sure this is one, but I'll suggest it anyway. What about a 100k+ word fanfic? I mean, that's longer than many novels.

I like that idea! I know a lot of our participates write fanfic and it would be a nice way to read something of theirs and be able to block off a square!
